Job Introduction

The Economics and Business Centre is part of BBC Newsgathering – which provides news reports for television, radio and online/mobile platforms both in the UK and internationally.

We report stories of regional and global importance, providing insightful analysis for audiences in English and local languages. We have the highest editorial and technical standards.  The India business team has staff in Mumbai and Delhi and they regularly travel around the country and region. They report on news events as well as their own exclusive stories and interviews. There is a strong focus on experimenting with new forms of story-telling for digital audiences and providing analysis of the major themes in global business and economics.  We are looking for a producer to join this team.

Role Responsibility

You will support reporters and crews, helping originate, research, set up stories and prepare material for broadcast.  You'll bring ideas for what we cover and how we cover it in order to engage global audiences as well as producing items for TV, radio and online, using the appropriate technical and production skills.  You'll need to organise effective coverage from Mumbai and on location in India on the basis of editorial priorities and programme requirements.

Please note this is not a reporting/on air role.

You will be expected to travel at short notice.

The Ideal Candidate

You will need experience of broadcast journalism with excellent news judgement and a knowledge of business and economic affairs in India.  A wide range of contacts and the ability to use them to find stories before they appear on other outlets is essential, along with a good understanding of the needs of TV, radio and online/mobile journalism.  Experience of covering breaking news stories is also essential.

Fluency in spoken and written English and Hindi is compulsory. Another Indian language is an advantage.
