Broadcast Assistant, BBC Guernsey

Job Introduction

It may be one of the smallest local operations in the BBC, but BBC Guernsey is also one of the most successful.

A team of two dozen people produce radio, online and television services to the four islands in the Bailiwick of Guernsey (Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm). Radio programmes consistently deliver some of the highest audience figures for BBC Local Radio.

The local pages for News Online are written in Guernsey and two television reporters provide material for a ten minute Channel Islands News opt at 6.30pm, as well as bulletins at 8pm and 10.25pm. More than half the team can work across at least two platforms, a handful work across all three.

Role Responsibility

You’ll support producers and presenters contributing innovative programme ideas, researching guests and topics. You will operate a variety of studio equipment including the radio car and provide outside broadcast production assistance. You will also be involved in some broadcasting co-ordination of programme administration.

You must have a flexible approach to work as this position is likely to involve weekend working hours.

Technical aptitude and creativity are essential along with a good broadcasting voice. Media experience is desirable. We’ll be looking for willingness to be flexible, adaptable and committed to quality programmes. You’ll have the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
