Casual Producer Talent Pool, Sinhala Service
BBC Sinhala is part of the BBC Asia Region which consists of 11 dynamic languages that produce multimedia content in text, video, interactive and audio for radio, online, mobile and Social Media platforms. BBC Sinhala delivers content to the Sinhalese speaking audience in Sri Lanka and around the world through its desktop and mobile sites, as well as through social media platforms. The service also delivers radio via our FM partners. We are recruiting for Casual Producers to work on an adhoc basis, covering periods of staff absence on leave/sick leave etc.
As a Casual Producer, you will assist the team on a variety of multimedia journalism in Sinhala language including researching stories, online writing, script writing, radio and video packaging, translating and working on a variety of digital formats and for radio. You will be creating content that we can use on Social Media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and a variety of Chat Apps.
The role demands creativity and flexibility, as well as a genuine passion for explaining the world to our specific global audiences. You may be called upon at short notice to cover shifts that include days, weekends and public holidays.
The Ideal Candidate
Sinhala will be your first (or equivalent) language and you will have a full comprehension of English. You will also have a proven track record in writing material for multimedia output. You will have a thorough and up to date knowledge of news and current affairs in Sri Lankan and internationally. An excellent broadcasting voice and strong reporting skills are also essential.
These are freelance opportunities. We are currently seeking freelance/casual Producer, based in the UK, who are interested in working with our team in London on an ad-hoc basis

Appointment to the pool will not entitle candidates to staff contracts in the BBC, these will have to be applied for in the normal way, and neither does it guarantee work.
If you already have a current staff contract with the BBC (continuing or fixed term), you won’t be eligible to apply.
