Job Introduction

BBC Events based at the BBC’s North HQ, MediaCity:UK works across all BBC divisions to bring the brands our audiences love into their back garden.

The team has worked to develop events such as Strictly Come Dancing in Blackpool, the BBC Music Awards, Sports Personality of the Year, 6Music Festival and CBBC Live. And directly delivered events like the Live Lounge Symphonies, Sport Relief and Children in Need OBs.

Furthermore, the team is the front-line link between the BBC and external event partners such as local government, universities, arts and culture bodies; maintaining working relationships with several stakeholders inside and outside the business to appropriately balance the BBC’s presence on the ground.

We have an exciting mandate to create the best moments with the best brands in the best places and we’re currently recruiting two energetic Producers with extensive broadcast events experience to join the team.

Role Responsibility

Responsible for the delivery of audience-facing events and programmes designed to amplify the BBC’s presence, impact and approval across the North of England.

Actively upholds both the BBC’s and statute’s standards in respect of finance, safety, editorial policy and quality pertaining to live events.

Develops and delivers an annual programme of industry and stakeholder events in partnership with BBC Communications, Corporate Affairs and Director General’s office designed to amplify the BBC’s presence and impact across the North of England

Collaborates across boundaries and builds proactive and productive relationships across the wider BBC including content commissioning, production and Studios and with external partners to deliver the above.

Develops and maintains relationships with representatives in the creative industries across the North of England

Provides expertise and professional advice to productions and partners on the safe delivery of events, guidance on the management of key issues, individual and political sensitivities and other relevant factors.

The Ideal Candidate

Extensive demonstrable experience of the management of complex audience-facing live events where broadcasting is a key component.

Experience of prioritising and performing well under pressure and tight deadlines.

The ability to plan and manage broadcast event budgets

Experience of planning complex installations of physical assets such as projections, posters, screens, lighting rigs, displays and staging with understanding of HSW/DDA/CDM regulations.

Substantial experience of the risk assessment process relating to the above.

The ability to exercise editorial judgement and to think creatively about how events may translate from the physical experience to television, radio and digital platforms.

Firm grasp of the statutory regulations pertaining to live events (such as Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM, DDA, Licensing etc.)

Demonstrable ability of think creatively, ideally with a portfolio of previous events available for discussion, taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines and resources

Package Description

Grade:   9D

Base:    Media City, Salford

Contract duration:   Attachment/Fixed-term. 

For these roles, we will also consider applicants who wish to work part-time as part of a job-share on a pro-rata arrangement - please include details of your proposed days (per week) in your application.

Contract dates:  Contract to December 2017
