Head of Software Engineering, BBC Platform
This is a rare opportunity to play key role in Platform Team, the department that powers content and personalisation services for the BBC. Your role as a Senior Leader within this function will be key to our journey of bringing together disparate teams and aligning ways of working. You will instrumental in our vision of changing the ways we engage with our audiences to enable a Digital First BBC.
A new role where you can have a big impact!
As a key member of the Platform Senior Leadership team, you will be tasked with driving consistency across our Engineering community (of 300+ people) in order to consolidate our technology choices, tooling and vendors. Your challenge being that you will not have direct line management responsibility thus the ability to have impact and influence through others will be key to your success
You’ll set up and govern numerous Communities of Practice across our department to ensure that we’re making sensible and informed choices around technology, tooling and vendors. You’ll put in place a training programme for our engineering community to ensure we have the right skills in the right place at the fight time to delivery our significant roadmap.
This is a rare opportunity to define the vision and strategy for how BBC Platform write, test and deploy code, moving towards a ”No-Ops” model where developers can focus on new features, rather than operational support
The Ideal Candidate
You will be an Agile Software Engineering Leader with a proven track record coaching, developing and mentoring an engineering communities at scale. Your experience dealing at C Level will mean you will be able to influence and provide leadership amongst your peers.
You will be passionate about Software Engineering, always looking to innovate and drive change and best practice. And will have a proven track record in driving and shaping thinking.
Your extensive leadership experience will mean you are confident in driving change through others without actually having any no direct line management responsibility.
