The BBC Concert Orchestra…
… is one of the world’s most versatile broadcasting orchestras, with a expertise ranging from light classics, musical theatre and films via the mainstream classical repertoire to opera, jazz and contemporary commissions. On radio, TV and in the concert hall, it has performed recently with artists as diverse as Earth, Wind & Fire, Frankie Valli, ELO, Nigel Kennedy, Simon Keenleyside, Kylie Minogue, Brian May, Danny Elfman, Wayne Shorter, Joseph Calleja, Barry Manilow and Bryn Terfel. The BBC Concert Orchestra also performs weekly for Friday Night is Music Night – the world’s longest running live music radio show – for more than 60 years. With a considerable turnover of repertoire and styles the Concert Orchestra operate in an intensive and high pressure broadcast environment.
PRINCIPAL CELLO (sitting no. 2)
The BBC CO has a vacancy for a player who must be able to demonstrate the following:
- Excellent and inspiring professional orchestral and solo playing ability
- Excellent sight reading skills
- Considerable experience across a range of musical styles
- Knowledge of the BBC Concert Orchestra repertoire
The Ideal Candidate
You will also need to demonstrate:
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and develop successful and productive working relationships with a diverse range of people
- The ability to both lead and work collaboratively to inspire and contribute to performances that meet the highest musical standards by providing artistic direction and by motivating members of the Section
