Production Management Assistant, Radio Production - TALENT POOL

Job Introduction

Radio Production is looking for experienced Production Management Assistants to join a freelance Radio Production Management Pool.

Radio Production is a production department within Radio, producing programmes for Radio 4, Radio 3 and the World Service. It has approximately 350 production staff based in Broadcasting House, Bristol, Birmingham and Salford.  In London Radio Production is organised into units, Factual Production, includes daily programmes such as Woman’s Hour, Outlook, weekly programmes for Radio 4 including Start the Week, In Our Time,  The Media Show, Last Word, Thinking Allowed and Saturday Live and for Radio 3, Free Thinking. Within Factual Production the Science Unit makes output for Radio 4, Radio 3 and the World Service) . Arts, Documentaries and Drama is the other unit and teams make daily programmes such as Front Row, World Service Arts programmes, Film Programme, Saturday Review as well as documentaries and Drama productions for Radio 3, Radio 4 and the World Service.

Staff are  based in London, Bristol, Salford and Birmingham

Role Responsibility

Production management assistants provide administrative support and assistance with the logistical management of the departments. PMAs are responsible for the smooth running of production offices, acting as a key point of contact.  PMAs work in partnership with editorial colleagues to deliver outstanding content, by supporting ways to realise editorial ambitions within operational and financial constraints.

PMAs report to Production Managers and provide support in the preparation and subsequent communication of production information, including internal and external procurement, within authorised limits, initiating and monitoring purchases, and maintaining any necessary records.  They are responsible for preparing and submitting paperwork, booking and co-ordinating production facilities, using a range of computer systems etc. 

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a pressurised and challenging environment whilst demonstrating strong organisational and planning skills.  You will have experience of managing conflicting demands and the ability to adapt and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines when the need arises.  You will need to demonstrate you are a good problem solver, who knows when to act on your own initiative and when to refer up.

You should be passionate about a broad range of radio content /have awareness of production/content and in particular the programmes produced by Radio Production – speech and drama.

Knowledge of BBC systems including SAP (or similar) is desirable. .

Having the ability to influence and motivate others to ensure you are an effective team worker, building relationships and working collaboratively within a diverse team would show you would be a valuable member to the team. Numeracy skills are needed to show you are able to understand and work with budgets.

Package Description

If you are selected to become part of the pool, you will be part of a list of individuals who could be called up – the period of work could range from one day up to 12 weeks. The pool will be operational from May 2017 – May 2018.

Appointment to the pool will not entitle candidates to permanent contract in the BBC, those will have to be applied for in the normal way, and neither does it guarantee work

Salary:  Daily rate based on a grade 3 salary for London or outside London 

Location:  London, Bristol, Salford or Birmingham
