Senior Software Engineer (IP Production) -- C++/prototyping
This exciting and important role is placed within Research & Development, which is part of BBC Future Media. BBC R&D has a worldwide reputation for contributing and leading the engineering research and development of many of the key broadcast and media technologies that have been introduced over the last 50 years.
We are researching TV production based on IP network technology instead of traditional audio/video equipment and infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity not only to make these systems more flexible and cost-effective but also to enable production of new types of content for the viewer.
The role is for a software developer working with a development team but with a particular focus on building prototype systems for evaluation in real production scenarios. As well as software development, it will involve setting up and operating these prototype systems, liaising with production staff and documenting the results. The role is at senior level and may involve managing the work of more junior staff.
The Ideal Candidate
Our main requirements are:
- a proficient C++ coder with a successful track record of development in a collaborative team
- a practical person with ability and enthusiasm for building prototypes and using systems in real-world production scenarios
- a good communicator who can work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues
