Software Engineer, TV & Mobile Platforms (All levels)

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Software engineers are at the heart of the future of the BBC for one simple reason: they are ones that will design the products and services which will form the foundation of our interactive TV output. So it’ll come as no surprise to learn that the team has won plenty of awards and that they are key to Future Media’s ambition to create the most valued open digital media services in the world. This is your chance to join them.

Role Responsibility

We want to transform the BBC for an interactive, on-demand world and find new ways of reaching audiences wherever they are, with new formats across PC, TV, mobile devices, gaming platforms (like Xbox), and recorders like TiVo. You’ll help do that by building TV experiences for all BBC Online products, and by defining and building Red Button services. You’ll also act as a central point of contact between the BBC and the TV device and software industry, presenting a single technical face to OEMs and platform providers.

The Ideal Candidate

Our work will shape the entire broadcasting industry, globally. To play your part in this you’ll need experience in two of the following (and the ability to rapidly acquire new software skills): Java, C++, C#, JavaScript, ActionScript, MHEG, and Ruby. You’ll also need knowledge of internet protocols and technologies, a solid grounding in OOP, an understanding of design patterns, and an appreciation of good user experience. With your track record of producing maintainable code within collaborative environments, you’ll have experience of working with source control systems.
