Linux Systems Engineer (Devops, Ansible & Cisco)
We’re looking for a systems engineer to join BBC Research & Development at our North Lab at MediaCityUK to form a team working on a new project called the Trial Platform. If you have experience managing Linux systems and IP networks using automation tools, this role is for you.
BBC R&D looks 1 to 5 years ahead, and is highly respected for its work at the cutting edge of the media industry. As part of the Trial Platform team, you’ll help our researchers experiment with future broadcasting technologies outside of the lab. The main focus is on producing live content using software and IP-based technology, as opposed to traditional broadcasting equipment. This is a systems engineering role focused on designing, implementing and operating the infrastructure needed to build t and run trials. This platform is a new project, giving you significant flexibility, although our existing stack is based around Ubuntu Linux, Cisco Nexus switches and Ansible.
Examples of the kind of work you may be asked to undertake are to:
- Configure high performance (>10G) networking needed to support high-bitrate video
- Develop automation scripts to provision boxes on the fly.
- Adjust the design of the platform in response to needs of our trials.
- Maintain smooth day-to-day running of the platform.
The Ideal Candidate
Specifically, we’re looking for someone with these skills:
- Ansible (or similar automation tools)
- Ubuntu Linux
- Cisco NX-OS switches
- Background in IT system design and operation
- Modern IT operations practices (Site Reliability Engineering/DevOps)
Grade 7 (Proposed Band C)
12 Months Fixed Term Contract
