Job Introduction

The Trainee Technical Operator Scheme is the perfect opportunity for technically minded individuals who are passionate about a career with the BBC. You will be presented with the unique opportunity of being in full time employment as well as benefiting from a fixed training scheme designed to equip you with the range of knowledge and skills you need to work as a Technical Operator in the BBC. 

Role Responsibility

As a Technical Operator Trainee you will based within the News Group at one of our 12 regional centres across England and will spend time working in teams within TV Operations and Production.  In this critical role you’ll be using and caring for the technology that keeps our broadcasts running smoothly,  helping to make programmes and, most importantly, you’ll be part of that all important link that ensures we reach our audiences.

You will be well supported in terms of your learning and development with a fixed programme made up of formal training at our industry renowned BBC Academy as well as on the job training alongside more senior staff. You will keep a log of your experience and training and will be assessed at regular intervals by your manager to keep a formal record of your development.  You will also be supported by a mentor from the business, who will be able to give you independent support and advice and help you secure your first job in the BBC at the end of the training scheme. You’ll also receive 25 days’ holiday.

You need to be flexible enough to work across a range of early, late and weekend shifts, including public holidays as required.

The Ideal Candidate

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has already demonstrated the desire to gain experience from a technical perspective within the broadcasting industry. As such you will have an understanding of computers and software applications, some knowledge of electronics and possibly been involved in providing technical support to local schools, hospital or student radio. Most importantly you will have a strong desire to learn new skills in order to secure your future career with the BBC.

Please note, assessments for these positions will be held in our Birmingham office week commencing 29 July.
