Training Manager, Algeria

Job Introduction

BBC Media Action uses media and communications to help people improve their lives and support them to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.

Since the end of 2011, BBC Media Action has been working in North Africa to support better public service programming in the media, especially the public and independent media. A significant share of our work is centred on capacity building and mentoring partners in Algeria. We are seeking to appoint a Training Manager to support this work.

Role Responsibility

This role is based in Tunis, with regular travel to Algiers. You will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of all radio, television, digital and mobile training and output that BBC Media Action seeks to deliver in Algeria.  You will liaise with BBC Media Action’s Research department  and the Project Manager to ensure your training plan is in line with the project’s objectives and the training needs of our project partners. You will be responsible for delivering training and mentoring or identifying suitable consultants, and support and oversee their work in Algeria. You will also work closely with the Project Manager and Head of Business and Finance to organise and monitor project activities, reporting on projects internally and externally as required.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have an impressive track-record in an editorial role in the media sector, preferably in Algeria, and demonstrable experience in journalism training. You will be familiar with a wide range of training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job, in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.).

You will need to demonstrate a strong editorial judgment, including BBC editorial values, good journalistic practice and experience in development issues.

You will have strong communication skills, particularly in relationship management with our project partners and developing written plans and reports for internal and external audiences. This role requires fluency in both Arabic and French. English is desirable.

Grade: 8

Location: Tunis, Tunisia

Contract: The contract is until 31 March 2018, with the possibility of an extension for one further year depending on funding.
