Welcome to Work Experience opportunities in Salford within News & Journalism. If you’re interested in Radio & Television news, broadcast production, newsgathering techniques and getting some great practical experience on your CV, you’ve come to the right place.

The BBC is responsible for the production of news across all Networks including the BBC 5Live, Radio Manchester and BBC Vietnamese.

Role Responsibility

Every placement is different, but your Work Experience will give you a good all round overview of News & Journalism across programming, reporting and editing. You may get the chance to watch broadcasts go out on air and understand the processes for Drama and Entertainment.

During your online application, you will have the opportunity to choose your placement and tell us about the things you’re really interested in.

We want people who are creative, keen to learn and are up for a challenge. In News & Journalism we work in teams where everyone has a role to play. We’re looking for people who are friendly and good communicators.

We work at a fast pace. So you’ll need to be enthusiastic and motivated to keep up.

We take our jobs seriously and really enjoy what we do. If you’re passionate about News & Journalism and are prepared to work hard, ask lots of questions and contribute ideas, you’ll fit right in.

Background/Experience

You don’t need a media qualification to apply. You just need to be able to show us that you’re passionate about News & Journalism and have a genuine desire to find out what the industry has to offer.

We have placements available in the following areas:

BBC Radio 5Live/Radio Manchester/BBC Breakfast (August and September only - over 18)

Opportunity to assist with preparing scripts, collecting vox pops and taking calls from listeners within Radio 5Live/Radio Manchester and BBC Breakfast

The One Show/Rip Off Britain (August and September only - over 18)

You'll have the opportunity to gain experience working on short film and programme ideas, helping to plan, schedule and organise some aspects of a location shoot to assist the team with location filming.

Newsround (August and September - over 18)

Gain experience working on short film and programme ideas, be encouraged to come up with ideas for contributors and assist the team with location filming.
