The Russell Joslin Award Placement
This is an annual Work Experience placement at BBC West Midlands, in memory of Russell Joslin, a much-loved broadcaster and journalist in the region. It's an opportunity to gain a valuable insight into local and regional broadcasting, working with experienced journalists to learn how we find and cover stories from communities across the West Midlands. The placement will be available in BBC WM (Birmingham), BBC Hereford & Worcester, BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Radio Stoke or Radio Shropshire. It will include a number of days at our TV newsroom in Birmingham. Please indicate on your application which is your preferred radio station.
Our aim is to provide a stepping-stone towards a broadcasting industry career for a deserving candidate who shares Russells passion for stories and commitment to local journalism.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn the skills of radio broadcasting, and work alongside some of Russells former colleagues.
Working with a personal mentor throughout the placement, the successful candidate will spend most of the placement at their BBC Local Radio station which will be WM, Coventry & Warwickshire, Shropshire, Hereford & Worcester or Stoke with a few days in the newsroom of Midlands Today and Inside Out in Birmingham.
The Ideal Candidate
This opportunity is open to applicants 18 years and over. Journalistic experience or academic qualifications, whilst useful, are not essential, and we are particularly keen on candidates who can demonstrate passion and flair.
*Age Criteria: Please note that due to Health & Safety considerations, you will need to be aged 18 or over to apply for this placement.
