Job Introduction

BBC News NI is recruiting 3 Journalists to work initially in radio with the opportunity to work across all platforms in a multi media news room.

The roles will be initially be based in Radio Current Affairs and will involve working across a number of programmes including Good Morning Ulster, Evening Extra and Talkback as well as radio bulletins. 

The successful candidates will have: experience of finding and delivering original stories, an excellent grasp of editorial guidelines and journalism law; a sound knowledge of politics, current affairs and ongoing issues in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and further afield, and a thorough knowledge of using technology to deliver innovative treatments for stories and recording audio.

Role Responsibility

  • Contributing original stories, researching and producing ideas for radio.
  • Handling audio and video for television, radio and digital platforms
  • Casting compelling discussions and debates
  • Dealing with complex editorial and legal issues
  • Working constructively and proactively as a member of a team with effective planning and organising skills
  • Using applications such as dalet, cinegy etc to enhance output
  • The ability to record audio and package material

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in these roles you must have excellent knowledge of current affairs and politics with the ability to find creative and innovative ways of presenting debates. 

You must have a track record of producing original stories/treatments with a strong grasp of editorial and legal issues as well as expert knowledge of broadcasting operations. 

You must be able to demonstrate the ability to use technology including dalet, cinegy, recording equipment and all other relevant applications.

Band: C 
Contract type: 35hr Continuing, 17.5hrs Continuing and 7hrs 6 month FTC/Attachment 
Location: Belfast
