Agile Business Analyst - BBC Sport Data

Job Introduction

As a Business Analyst for the BBC Sport team within BBC Product, you will be part of a world class team, transforming the ways people enjoy sport and live events online through ground-breaking technology.

The Sport team are tasked with delivering a new vision for online content that reinvents free-to-air-sport for the digital age. This means delivering products for huge events including the Olympics and the World Cup, developing our Live coverage and Sports Data offerings, and ensuring our 24/7 sports news service remains the go-to source for millions of users. We do this across web, mobile and connected devices, delivering quality in good time for large sporting and national events. This is both challenging and massively rewarding.

BBC Sport’s Product team is a collaborative, dynamic team, with a track record in delivering new technical solutions and products. Our Business Analysts are at the heart of what we do, working with Product Managers, Engineers and Designers and in partnership with Sport’s editorial staff, to shape the next generation of digital sport coverage.

By working with Sport, you will help build out the wider BBC’s vision to create the world’s best digital services, using cutting edge technology and collaborating with other teams such as News, Children’s and Weather. We aim to drive reach and engagement with new audiences through a new, exciting pan-BBC approach. You will be at the centre of this and will champion faster, simpler ways of doing things, working together and delivering data, web and app propositions of the future.

Role Responsibility

  • Working on the BBC Sport team you will help shape the direction for the product set, working to the Executive Product Manager.
  • You will translate Product vision into discovery and development tasks and fine tune requirements with developers, designers, UX and testers so they’re clear, accurate, actionable and measurable.
  • You will play a key role in helping the team deliver value quickly, mitigate risk and hit quarterly objectives by identifying priorities and planning & managing workload.
  • You will work with technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating idea generation, sharing knowledge and building strong working relationships around a shared set of objectives.
  • You will be responsible for analysing data about product usage, identifying behaviours and insights to support decisions and recommendations.
  • You will need to collaborate with other teams inside and outside of the BBC to ensure the solutions you arrive at work for the BBC as a whole. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of agile BA techniques, user stories, BDD/TDD, analysing audience data, running requirements workshops, preferably in an agile deadline driven environment
  • Experience of presenting effectively to non-technical stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience can include user-facing products, back-end systems or understanding and using API’s
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with developers, UX, delivery etc
  • Relevant sport domain / major event / sporting calendar knowledge is desirable but not essential
