Assistant Editor, BBC Arabic Digital Content
80 years ago, on the 3rd of January 1938, BBC Arabic made its very first radio broadcast. Since then, the Arab world and its media landscape have changed beyond all expectations, and we now operate in a fiercely competitive and highly fluid market. But that hasn't stopped BBC Arabic from solidly remaining, as it has been for its entire history, one of the Arab world's most trusted and respected broadcasters.
Our audiences continue to grow and have recently exceeded the 37 million mark globally on all platforms. And in 2017, we won more international awards for our journalism than in any other previous year so far.
BBC Arabic is looking for an editorial leader with an excellent track record in digital journalism, in video, text and interactive form, to help to drive the digital transformation of the service.
You will lead the commissioning of original journalism and analysis on BBC Arabic, and will manage a video team, an in-depth team, our women's affairs blogger and will commission from the near east graphics hub on behalf of BBC Arabic.
You will help to define and develop an engaging visual and editorial style for Arabic digital content, in particular video, to broaden our audience in MENA, and will manage a significant commissioning budget.
The post holder will be responsible for maximising the impact of our content with the wider BBC and beyond and for bringing the best of BBC content to Arabic digital audiences.
Are you the right candidate?
- Experience of commissioning and producing original journalism and analysis video and graphics content to the highest possible standard
- Excellent online text writing, subbing and editing skills and the highest levels of modern classical Arabic
- A strong track record of managing people and building bridges with colleagues and teams
- Experience driving strategic change
- Extremely strong knowledge and understanding of the Middle East
