As part of major investment in BBC's Scottish Referendum coverage, BBC Scotland will expand our coverage of politics in our Online team. The team will deliver engaging and user-friendly content and provide a forum for national debate.
The team will play a leading role in shaping BBC Scotland’s Referendum coverage and work alongside colleagues in other parts of the BBC to provide a compelling and comprehensive site covering Scottish politics and the Referendum.
We are looking for an Assistant News Editor to become part of BBC Scotland's Referendum team. You will manage and oversee the BBC Scotland Scottish politics and Scotland’s future indexes as well as contribute to the online service and related content. The Assistant News Editor plays a leading role in the development of this content and staff and will assist in the development of multimedia working practices across News & Current Affairs.
You will set the political agenda for BBC Scotland online content and manage and co-ordinate content produced for on demand news platforms. You will be expected to provide an editorial lead to the online political team, allocating work to Broadcast Journalists and Senior Broadcast Journalists and initiate and implement ideas involving a high degree of original contribution.
The Ideal Candidate
Enthused by politics it will be up to you to make it come alive for the BBC’s audiences. You will have a high standard of editorial judgement; writing ability and substantial experience in on demand journalism ideally coupled with a detailed, authoritative knowledge and understanding of all aspects of modern Scotland and its institutions.
You must have the ability to originate and develop engaging ideas for on demand, multimedia content and have a detailed understanding of the logistical requirements of on demand news production and output. Proven qualities of leadership in developing and motivating staff would be an advantage along with an awareness of the importance of budgets and resources
