BBC Studios Factual – Executive Producer, Long Form Narrative Podcasts

Job Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity to join BBC Studios Factual to work across a portfolio of premium narrative podcasts.

 

The Executive Producer will oversee a slate of factual podcasts, ensuring that all commissions run smoothly and deliver on the ambition and quality expected by our clients. They will have excellent creative storytelling skills and have a proven track record of working on successful long form narrative podcasts. They need to be a genuine team player who enjoys working collaboratively with talent and production teams, enabling them to do their best work. The Executive Producer will provide support and guidance to teams throughout the production timeline, helping structure and shape projects, reviewing bids for talent and potential contributors, overseeing interview prep as well as reviewing and feeding back on scripts, cuts and sound design. The Executive Producer will also feed into the Development slate – helping generate ideas and drafting treatments, as well as suggesting presenting and production talent.

 

Role Responsibility

  • To help deliver outstanding hit factual podcast content on time and to budget.
  • To help oversee the smooth running of production across a portfolio of projects being produced by multiple teams within Factual, ensuring they deliver on the ambition.
  • To help shape the editorial across numerous series, tactfully and creatively feeding back on producers’ ideas, scripts, casting and edits.
  • To effectively lead the production teams, taking challenges in your stride.
  • To contribute to the podcast development slate – helping generate and develop new ideas of scale that have the potential to also translate into TV derivatives, as well as secure access and draft treatments.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Find brilliant producer and host talent and help them make their best work.
  • Give editorial and creative guidance in terms of structure, plot, tone, sound design and storytelling and give clear notes to producers and hosts.
  • Facilitate collaborative working with our TV teams and help deliver outstanding hit factual podcast content on time and to budget.
  • To help oversee the smooth running of production across a portfolio of projects being produced by multiple teams within Factual, ensuring they deliver on the ambition.
  • To help shape the editorial across numerous series, tactfully and creatively feeding back on producers’ ideas, scripts, casting and edits.
  • To effectively lead the production teams, taking challenges in your stride.

  • Ensure content is compliant within editorial and legal guidelines and to a general high standard.
  • Have a passion for audio and wide-ranging podcast listening habits.

Required experience

  • You need extensive experience in premium factual content at producer and exec level
  • Evidence and experience of leadership and management, working across a portfolio of projects at once.
  • Experience of making long form narrative factual podcasts – including stories with more journalistic or investigative approaches.
  • Proven ability to initiate original ideas that lead to commissions.
  • Track record of developing and working with both top talent and emerging talent.
  • Excellent creative storytelling skills and a strong understanding of what makes a compelling, standout podcast.
  • Experience of dealing calmly and effectively in the face of pressure, setbacks or when dealing with provocative situations or needing to make difficult decisions.
  • An understanding and awareness of the fast-changing podcast landscape here and in the US.
