Broadcast Journalist, BBC East Midlands Today
BBC East Midlands Today is the region’s most watched evening news programme with an average daily audience of around two hundred thousand. We broadcast to homes in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.
Our viewers come to us for an unrivalled service of local news and analysis of events, which we provide throughout the day in our breakfast, lunch, evening and weekend bulletins. Staff gather and share content for TV, radio and online. The team also works closely with colleagues on weekly programmes, including Inside Out and the Sunday Politics show.
You will be expected to undertake the main responsibilities of the Broadcast Journalist including working alongside and supporting the producer to put the lunch, evening and late bulletins together. You will also work to put together material for the early bulletins. As a broadcast journalist, you will also be expected to research, produce, report and present across seven days a week, and originate and develop creative programme ideas and stories.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will have extensive experience working in broadcast journalism, including proven live broadcasting and reporting. You will have proven editorial judgement and good writing skills. Experience of filming and editing your own material as well as a good broadcasting voice are essential. Ideally you will be familiar with the East Midlands region and the key issues facing our audiences. You should have an awareness of legal considerations applying to all types of output.
