Broadcast Journalist, BBC Kyrgyz Service

Job Introduction

Salary range - £31000-£34000 (including allowances)

BBC Kyrgyz is part of BBC Central Asia and BBC Global News, one of the world’s leading multi-media news organisations providing international news and analysis to a global audience. Broadcast Journalists will increasingly be expected to work closely with the rest of the BBC, building relationships that will be mutually beneficial and which will enable BBC Kyrgyz to take an active role in the overall BBC coverage of Kyrgyzstan working under the supervision of Senior Broadcast Journalists.

Role Responsibility

You will research, write, translate, edit or adapt items, stories or programme material for BBC Kyrgyz to find contributors and interviewees as well as other sources of material and actuality as appropriate. This will involve maintaining professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing and adhering to the BBC’s Producers guidelines.

 

Alongside this, you will also be responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required, which includes thinking through and around editorial problems, developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches.

 

You will be responsible for studio and online production of live and pre-recorded programmes, to respond to breaking stories whilst on air and to resolve technical content difficulties for BBCKyrgyz.com. This will involve liaising closely with other team members and reporters.

 

After appropriate training, you will be able to use a range of audio & TV digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.

The Ideal Candidate

With excellence in written and spoken Kyrgyz and English, you will have the ability to work effectively in both languages. You will have significant and recent experience as a journalist, with good knowledge of production techniques. The ability to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media is required. As well as this, you will have strong team working and highly developed communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with a range of people.
