BBC News Online is the most read news service in the world and its desks cover everything that’s happening, from local news to reports of nationwide interest. Regional stories are some of the most widely read on the BBC website, and those written by our regional journalists are regularly the most popular, often attracting millions of readers when promoted on our national pages.
BBC Online East Midlands is part of BBC English Regions, which is the divisional name for BBC local websites, Local Radio and Local TV, with around 3000 staff up and down the country.
Now we’re looking for a brilliant reporter (Broadcast Journalist) to join the East Midlands online team. That means someone with passion for multi-media news coupled with a flair for local stories.
It goes without saying, you’ll be an excellent storyteller - writing professional standard articles that ooze accuracy, impartiality and fairness. You use social media as both a source and a platform, and always make sure you comply with the BBC’s values and guidelines.
You’ll bring your original ideas to planning meetings, where you’ll suggest new angles on existing stories and offer brand new ones too. All the time keeping online coverage up-to-date and supported with great pictures, audio and video.
Please note: In addition to reporting, the successful candidate will be taking part in a deployment planning trial, which will involve identifying opportunities to gather digital video.
The Ideal Candidate
With experience of print and text reporting behind you and an appetite for digital news, you’ll understand the power and responsibilities of online journalism. And if you don’t already have in- depth technical skills and internet knowledge, you should be willing and able to learn them.
Using your nose for a story as your guide, you’ll turn ideas into lively multi-media articles, with the ability to write swiftly and accurately as breaking stories unfold. Ready to join us?
