Job Introduction

We would like to invite you to join our Sony Award winning team of journalists aiming to take BBC Radio Berkshire to new heights. BBC Radio Berkshire serves a population of 800,000 and has one of the busiest news patches in the country. You'll find yourself at the heart of world class events including Royal Ascot and the Reading Festival, providing unique opportunities for story-telling.

Covering a diverse area, from the rural communities in West Berkshire to the urban centres of Reading and Slough, you'll become part of a dynamic team telling compelling stories that matter to our audience.

Role Responsibility

BBC Radio Berkshire is looking for a journalist and producer with strong news judgement and first class bulletin presentation skills.

We are looking for a journalist to join our team in reporting, producing programmes and finding original stories. You will also be presenting news bulletins and contributing to programme production and pre-production content.

Berkshire is a busy news area and you will have the ability to work efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines. You’ll work across a range of shifts which may include weekend working and will need to demonstrate a flair for creating compelling programming. Generating ideas will also be a key part of the role.

You will have sound editorial judgement and if called for interview, you should be prepared to discuss and critically assess BBC Berkshire's output, particularly the breakfast programme and news bulletins.

In addition to your online application which will include registering on our Careers Hub site and completing the online questionnaire, you will also need to submit a demo which includes a one minute headline read of at least six stories, or an example, of no more than 3 minutes, which showcases your reporting skills. Applications submitted without demos will not be considered.

Please send examples of your work as an MP3 file  via email to and with the subject title ‘Demo: Broadcast Journalist – 7179/322: NAME’.
