BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels. As part of an historic and exciting expansion of the Americas region, the BBC World Service is expanding its language services serving audiences in Mundo and Brasil. The expanded language services will be based in Miami for the Mundo and San Paulo for the Brasil service, both regions will work closely and collaboratively with all teams in that office and with teams in the BBC’s headquarters in London to deliver the best service for BBC audiences.
We are looking for 3 Multimedia Broadcast Journalists for the Americas Region based in Miami, USA.
As a Multimedia Broadcast Journalist, we are looking for you to create original and impactful digital content for BBC Mundo. You will research, report, write, translate, edit and adapt stories or programme material, ensuring all content meets editorial standards and is appropriate for the target audience. You will utilise the best available images, audio, video or interactivity and create innovative material for digital output, including social media platforms, on text stories, video and podcasts.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have an excellent command of Spanish (written and spoken) and full comprehension of English. You will ideally have digital video skills, experience of TV or radio presentation is a distinct advantage. With a demonstrable background in a journalistic role, you will have knowledge of reporting in the field on international and Latin American current affairs. A demonstrable interest in working in a multimedia environment and in encouraging audience involvement is essential. You will have knowledge of the target region and an in-depth understanding of its history, politics, social issues and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience.
