Job Introduction

BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences.  It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.  As part of a historic and exciting expansion of the Americas region, the BBC World Service is expanding its language services serving audiences in Brazil.

All Language Services are multiplatform, with a multimedia website with a focus on digital video, text, interactivity for both desktop and mobile platforms.  The Brazilian Service aims to make international news relevant to the Americas audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on Americas and global developments. BBC Brasil content reaches monthly around 20 million unique users through partners, Social Media and our website

Role Responsibility

We are looking for Multimedia Broadcast Journalists to be based in our newsroom in Sao Paulo.  You'll create original and impactful digital content for BBC Brasil.

You should be a creative and versatile journalist, with a strong understanding of what makes good digital content and how it is consumed on different platforms. A deep knowledge and experience on digital video will be an advantage. We're looking for a producer who is passionate about digital storytelling. As the digital landscape is changing you would need to be as nimble as the technologies.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have a full command of Brazilian Portuguese as first (or equivalent) language, as well as a complete comprehension of English and the ability to communicate effectively.

You’ll have relevant full-time experience as a journalist, both in originating material and editing the work of others, and experience of reporting on international and Brazilian issues. In addition, you will have wide and up-to-date knowledge of current affairs in the target area as well as strong experience of Social Media for Journalism.

You should have the ability to suggest ideas for coverage that engage the audience in different topics. Ability to present in front of a microphone or camera in Portuguese (and English, if required) will be an advantage.

Candidates should enjoy working under pressure and bring plenty of story and treatment ideas to the role.
