BBC News brings together Network News, English Regions and Global News’ English and Language Services to serve a large variety of audiences in the UK and around the world on many platforms. At the heart of this structure, BBC Newsgathering provides news reports, pictures and audio material to all BBC News programmes and services both in the UK and internationally. This content is of the highest possible editorial and technical standard, which in turn provides the best value for money for BBC audiences around the world.
Brussels is the hub bureau for BBC News in Europe and provides and manages the BBC’s coverage of the European Union and its institutions as well as breaking news and social, cultural and political trends throughout continental Europe.
We are looking for a Producer to work in Brussels. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months (local terms and conditions apply).
Your role is mainly based in Brussels and Strasbourg, working both independently and as part of a team of around 12 journalists. You will be expected to work flexibly; travel is often expected at short notice. Reporting to the Europe Bureaux Editor, you will contribute to the production of high quality reports for TV, radio and online tailored for different audiences. You will identify stories from a wide range of sources and agendas and help us deliver engaging original text and video for digital platforms. You’ll be interested in a wide range of political, economic, social and cultural stories from across Europe.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will have some relevant experience in journalism and a clear understanding of the demands of a multi-platform news environment. In-depth knowledge of political, economic, social and cultural news stories from across Europe is essential. You will be energetic, tenacious, creative and completely comfortable with digital news and social media platforms – both as a source of stories and as a place for our journalism. You may bring some existing skills in filming or editing video and audio and you will certainly be technically capable and excited to learn more with the BBC. You will be a fluent English speaker; fluency in other European languages is a distinct advantage.
Willingness to work flexibly and travel at short notice is essential.
