Job Introduction

We are looking for a Business and Operations Director who will provide clear financial and operational support primarily to the Director, Scotland and the wider Nations team. This role reports to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer for Nations and Regions.

Role Responsibility

The Business and Operations Director will be working as part of the Scotland Executive Team to deliver the BBC’s priorities and supporting BBC Scotland’s focus on Audiences First, Working Together and being a Creative Business.

The role will include assessing, establishing and maintaining robust internal control and governance systems, financial disciplines and risk management processes to ensure effective governance, and compliance with legislation, accounting standards and interfaces with the governance frameworks within the wider BBC.

The B&O Director will own the documentation and communication of the business processes in place to run the portfolio as well as provide expertise in devising, reviewing and assessing business cases and proposals including identifying key issues and financial implications.

The successful candidate will have accountability for the portfolio’s operations and production operations talent pools, ensuring the business has the right skills, at the right level to meet the demand, working with individual teams to achieve this. They will support the director in their accountability for ensuring the sub-division achieve targets on diversity of workforce to benefit the creative output.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a strong understanding of the media sector and BBC competitors, and the relevant in-depth knowledge of current industry trends and issues relating to their functional area.

You will already have considerable knowledge of business and operations. You will have proven expertise in managing multiple stakeholders at all levels of an organisation whilst applying excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

We expect you to have advanced budget-control skills and an awareness of internal audit processes as well as expertise in planning, monitoring, reporting and detecting and resolving problems.

You will lead and drive change management having considerable experience in project management and evidence of successfully delivering complex projects.
