Chief Operating Officer (COO)
An opportunity has arisen to join the BBC Deputy Director General’s team as Chief Operating Officer for the DDG Group. This is a permanent role, based in London.
The Deputy Director General Group is led by Anne Bulford, Deputy Director General and contains the following key functions: Finance, Quality Risk & Assurance, HR, Marketing & Audiences, Commercial, Legal, Strategy, Workplace and Design & Engineering. These functions work together to support production and creativity across the whole of the BBC.
As Chief Operating Officer, you will lead and co-ordinate all internal business activities within the Deputy Director General’s (DDG) HQ. These activities run across the following: Governance; Reporting; Finance, HR, communications, strategy, budget, resources, accommodation, ways of working and stakeholder management.
Working with colleagues across the DDG Group, you will be the professional sponsor for major projects, chairing steering groups, tracking progress and advising the DDG on process and approach to corporate business to ensure that matters are dealt with in an efficient and timely way.
Responsible for maintaining an overview of the DDG Group business and the organisation, you will liaise with the DG’s Executive Unit and the Company Secretary as required, including dealing with all required reports. You will manage the flow of work through the DDG HQ office, monitoring progress on papers, drafts and commissioned pieces of work, setting deadlines, chasing and advising the DDG and coordinating with key business stakeholders within the DDG Group as needed.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have experience of business strategy and knowledge of the wider media environment, including conventional and innovative competitors. You will have experience of providing business and management support to a senior level within a professional service environment and/or a major organisation. Proven ability to analyse and summarise large volumes of information, write BBC board papers and lead meetings with senior stakeholders is essential. Excellent organisational and planning skills are vital and you will possess the ability to manage a number of conflicting priorities whilst remaining calm under pressure.
