In September 2020 the new Director General Tim Davie set a new BBC priority to create more value from digital, citing the acceleration of these services as essential to our ambitions to become a digital first organisation.

But time in people’s digital lives is increasingly hard won, the competition is fierce and we want to go further and at pace, which means we are transforming in order to grow digitally, with fewer, bigger, and better priority destinations.
And to lead this change, we are creating a new Chief Product Officer post.
Reporting the Group Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Product Officer will be responsible for the development and delivery of the BBC’s audience-facing digital products, against the strategy, priorities, and requirements set by the BBC’s Executive Committee.
Your brief will be to deliver the function’s product delivery strategy as efficiently as possible; driving a high value audience experience through reducing costs, increasing income and ensuring appropriate investment to maximise return to our customers – the BBC audience.
Under your inspirational leadership, you’ll foster and develop a high performance culture in an environment which is diverse, inclusive and agile while meeting our ambitions around sustainability and development throughout the UK.
You’ll be a member of a newly created Digital Leadership Group that will bring leadership from technology and editorial together, and here you’ll work closely with digital Managing Directors to develop our product roadmaps, balancing resources deliver against priorities.
And you’ll lead the development of technology within BBC-developed software and digital products, with responsibility for multi-disciplinary teams in Software Engineering, UX, Architecture, Project Management, Product and Delivery Management across a number of UK centres.
The Ideal Candidate
With significant leadership experience operating and influencing at board level, you will have a demonstrable track record in the development and delivery of large scale consumer digital products, gained within an environment of similar scale, scope and complexity as the BBC.
You’ll be an inspirational leader of diverse, multi-disciplinary teams with the ability to drive delivery in a fast moving landscape. As a deep technical expert, you will be able to demonstrate your leadership in the development of technology solutions whilst managing and building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, working in a collaborative way to ensure that the audience/customer enjoy a high value experience using our products and services.

Location: Based from any main UK site with regular travel to Salford, Glasgow & London
