We have an exciting opportunity to join the Formats Genre team at BBC Studios on a 12 month fixed term contract.
The team is responsible for developing and delivering formats into the International Production and Formats pipeline for global exploitation across Unscripted and Scripted. You will support to identify opportunities to grow a commercially successful content pipeline for the BBC Studios Factual Entertainment, Entertainment and Scripted Formats business.
This role manages an agreed portfolio of producers or productions and, with support from Commercial Director, is responsible for directly securing the most commercially attractive content from a variety of suppliers such as BBC Studios UK and International Production, and Independent producers and to sell domestically and internationally in the Formats genre.
The Commercial Manager will work closely with the Commercial Director to ensure the team meets its pipeline targets. Clearly identifies gaps in the pipeline and works to secure content to fill them.
You will keep a close eye on markets, trends and competitors to ensure BBC Studios stays at the forefront of its business.
The Commercial Manager will research and identify projects that are; – in development, in pre production or pre broadcast stages – that have international & revenue potential. The role therefore involves assessing programme pitches, debating ideas at concept stage, reading treatments, or analysing key talent attached to projects.
The main focus of this role is to build and maintain relationships with the Creative Network team, the Global format sales teams, and the International Production teams, as well as external and BBC Studios Producers. You will have strong relationship building skills as this role involves working with people at all levels of the business.
The Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of the value of programming in the major international markets and across the different media platforms.
You will have a sound knowledge of the key producers, both within the BBC and across the independent production sector.
Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to communicate and influence at a senior level are essential, as well as significant experience in a distribution, broadcast or an independent production environment.
You will have a proven track record of negotiating commercially attractive deals and good relationships with key contacts across the media industry.
