The Commissioning & Acquisitions Team at BBC Children’s identifies and secures the widest range of top quality content from both the UK and internationally to satisfy the needs of our modern, sophisticated young audience. We reach our audience via a wide range of platforms including the CBeebies and CBBC channels, iPlayer, mobile and on-line, offering an enormous choice of programming from animations like Hey Duggee and Dangermouse to dramas like Biff & Chip and Mallory Towers. Uniquely, we also feature a world-class portfolio of children’s Factual like My Life, Operation Ouch and Andy’s Wild Adventures and comedies like Justin’s House and Horrible Histories. We are currently seeking 2 x Commissioning Coordinators to join the team. 1 x continuing/permanent and 1 x 6 month fixed term contract/attachment from mid-April 2022.

Role Responsibility

The main responsibilities of the Commissioning Co-ordinator will be:

  •  Reading and responding to proposal submissions
  •  Use own editorial judgment in assessing proposals and rejecting/progressing/allocating ideas as appropriate.
  •  Discussing, reporting and providing feedback on submissions to Senior Commissioning Team and keeping the Heads of Commissioning & Acquisitions up to date on all matters arising
  • Liaising and building good working relationships with suppliers, as well as identifying new companies to do business with
  • To produce documentation, collect data and carry out reporting as required throughout the commissioning process.
  • To organise commissioning briefings, events, meetings and travel for the commissioning team where necessary

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Strong Editorial and Creative judgement
  • Knowledge and understanding of script writing and other key components of the development  process
  • Genuine passion for Kid’s content and knowledge of the business
  • Self-starter capable of assessing projects based on the Departmental objectives
  • A good communicator with the confidence to work closely with both the Senior team and external suppliers
  • Experience of compliance as it applies to Children’s content.

Please note, this role requires a relevant DBS check to be undertaken by the BBC at the appropriate level, at the point of offer of a contract of employment.
