Commissioning Editor - BBC Three
BBC Three moved fully online last year and so we now offer programmes and other short form content via the BBC Three website, BBC iPlayer and other digital & social platforms. The move created a proposition that can transform the BBC's youth offering for the 16-34 audience. BBC Three is a badge of quality; shorthand for content that has purpose, stimulates emotions and provokes reactions.
BBC3 continues to have a strong presence in the long-form arena & will continue to back the very best of British Comedy, Drama and Factual but we're now looking to find new ways to connect and collaborate with our audiences to deliver a unique voice on subjects that matter to them. We're facing big competition in saturated media landscape. We know that our audiences can be time-poor & critically demanding, but we also know our brand can punch-through!
We have access to a wealth of established BBC brands & star-talent & this is what sets us apart from our competitors; so by offering targeted-content, that delivers a laugh, a tear and the truth, we know we can succeed in our ambition to be a daily, must-click destination for young consumers.
We are now looking to appoint a visionary & strategic Commissioning Editor to cover maternity leave ; someone who's plugged-into our target audience, who's not scared to commission cutting-edge content which is surfaced on the most appropriate digital & social platforms.
Commissioning short form/new form content, for the BBC Three website and its digital platforms; produced by a variety of suppliers, in the independent sector as well as BBC Studios
As the main point of contact for our indie & internal partners, your role is critical in ensuring the creative process is nurtured at every turn, through targeted & constructive feedback & market-sector knowledge; helping our producers to ferment the sort of ideas for programming, that reflects our brand and ambition as well as the diversity and spirit in of our content & audience.
Your role is critical to the evolution of our content strategy & will mean collaborating closely with the BBC Three Controller and the Brand's editorial team, who carry primary responsibility for the editorial leadership and quality of all content across BBC and other external digital platforms.
You'll balance your previous editorial experience with ensuring programmes & content are quality compliant and that the financial slate you are accountable for, is optimised & delivered successfully, and that commissions demonstrate value for money, quality and originality.
The Ideal Candidate
You're a highly-skilled content commissioner who's made and/or commissioned outstanding TV & short form content & you're a digital-first junkie; searching and watching critically across all platforms, analysing how audiences are consuming and reacting to content.
You apply an understanding of audience needs to all the content you commission, by using analytics & data, as well as having astute creative experience & a rigorous editorial judgement, ensuring your content rises above the noise, in a the competitive digital marketplace.
You're an adept communicator & visionary leader, who can inspire & challenge Producers, Indies & staff alike; enabling them to translate their ideas into impactful content and programming.
You're ambitious for your audience & you'll ensure the value of the licence fee is fully optimised & that's why you're not scared to challenge creative ideas if they miss the target - average isn't good enough.
You're highly experienced at, & excited by the opportunity to transform business models, innovating & taking calculated risks in order to reach new audiences & transform video & content offers for our BBC Three & iPlayer sites & social platforms.
You're proud to say you work for the BBC & you're equally not afraid to say you're highly ambitious; but what drives your ambition is the satisfaction you derive from serving our audiences with quality, diverse & enriching content.
