Commissioning Executive - Popular Factual, Formats and Digital

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

We have a rare opportunity for a Commissioning Executive for our popular factual, formats and digital content areas. This is a key role, critical to the success of BBC Scotland. The Commissioning Executive will work as part of a team under BBC Scotland’s Head of Multiplatform Commissioning to deliver a broad range of diverse and innovative content from suppliers to our audiences, balancing editorial excellence with all compliance and budgetary requirements. This role will be a key point of contact for collaborating with BBC colleagues across the business, particularly BBC Three.

We welcome applications from  candidates of diverse backgrounds.

Role Responsibility

This aim of this role is to ensure that the development of ideas meets the needs of our audience, that content is appropriate for its target age group and reflects its diverse nature.

You will take the lead identifying and developing content which has particular appeal for younger audiences and intergenerational viewing, including developing new talent through Digital platforms, and to work with suppliers to ensure the editorial content complies with the BBC’s editorial standards and guidelines.

It is vital that you bring diverse thinking and offer recommendations to the development of BBC Scotland’s commissioning strategy, in particular for Popular Factual, Formats and commissioning into Digital platforms.

It is key that the Commissioning Executive will work closely with colleagues across the BBC, particularly BBC Three, to identify and develop content with appeal for UK audiences and work to ensure successful delivery of programmes that meet Scotland and UK priorities.

There will generally be no line management or specific budget line responsibility for this role, but may mentor more junior members of staff.

This role will work closely with BBC Scotland’s Head of Multiplatform Commissioning to deliver and/or commission a broad range of innovative and challenging content from suppliers to our audiences. This role will have a target against hours and volume of content commissioned and will work closely with BBC Scotland’s Head of Business to deliver this successfully.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a keen interest and proven track record in content production and commissioning, preferably across more than one platform with a passion for and a great understanding of the area in which the role operates.

You will have a strong understanding of, and a track record in addressing, evolving audience requirements specifically in relation to family viewing and younger audiences, ensuring that new forms of content are being considered as part of the commissioning process.

You must have strong creative skills and proven success in producing original ideas, treatments, formats and developing innovative programme making, fostering creativity in others, specifically for Popular Factual, Formats and Digital but also across other areas.

You will ideally have an established network of industry contacts and be able to evidence senior stakeholder management.

Part of this role involves being an ambassador for BBC Scotland and the industry in Scotland so you will be expected to attend and speak at public and private events and should therefore come with experience and confidence in carrying out such duties.

The role requires outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to foster good relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts.
