We have a rare and exciting opportunity available to join Motion Gallery’s Content Team as a Content Co-ordinator for the Natural History Unit. You will be primarily responsible for selecting premium stock footage clips from the BBC’s Archive and publishing them to our online collection, hosted on Getty Images’ website.  

Role Responsibility

The Content Co-ordinator - Natural History Unit will work as part of a small team, working with international sales teams and BBC production departments to drive premium Natural History content to BBC Motion Gallery’s online platform whilst supporting and providing expert advice to the global sales and marketing teams. 

You will research footage from BBC libraries and select valuable clips from the BBC’s Natural History archive, according to a set of subject criteria, and with the commercial nature of the business in mind. You will ensure any material ordered is properly managed and returned.

You will conduct copyright checks by reviewing production paperwork to ensure footage is owned or represented by BBC Studios, and that it does not breach BBC Editorial Policies. You will approve licensing of BBC footage, ensuring it is used in context and not in a way that will do any reputational harm to the Public Service to protect the BBC Brand and the relationship between BBC Studios and the Public Service.

You will establish and fulfil new content requirements based on sales analysis, market trends and other feedback to increase revenue from online sales. You must apply high quality and accurate metadata, such as descriptions and keywords, that optimise our clips and increases the likelihood of them being returned in customer searches and selected to license.

You will use broadcast software and hardware to select, colour-grade and export clips in appropriate formats, ensuring quality of material is maintained throughout the process.

Within your role you will assist the Head of Operations in licensing material to BBC Studios internal production teams. From time to time you will cover Natural History research enquiries by providing research and rights clearance services to our offline sales team.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and interest in Natural History, with the ability to easily identify habitats, behaviours and species. 

Experience in selecting and cataloguing footage or images and assessing for quality, composition & subject matter, preferably for a commercial stock footage library, will be advantageous.

Experience of film, video or photography production workflows, preferably involving Natural History content, will be beneficial, as well as knowledge of production techniques, cameras and archive file formats.

Proven experience of using editing technology such as Adobe Premier Pro will be beneficial. 

You will have great organisational skills with the ability to deliver against operational targets, prioritise workloads and use your own initiative. You will be an enthusiastic team worker with a flexible approach, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to think creatively.

A Biology or Zoology qualification, or equivalent experience would be a strong advantage.
