Creative Technologist (Digital Content Innovation)
The world is changing, audiences are changing and BBC content forms will change as we compete for the currency of attention on multiple platforms. In order to do this we want you to help us find the next generation of output for the BBC. As part of a team of innovators based in Birmingham, you will pilot and prototype new storytelling ideas, and you will find new ways for the BBC to engage with its audiences and to deliver unforgettable content. In so doing, you will be helping the BBC to continue to deliver its mission to Inform, Educate and Entertain.
As a Creative Technologist, you will report to the Creative Lead Digital Guerrillas in Birmingham. You will work across multiple genres, formats and platforms. You will be passionate about technology and responsible for apps and mobile, front-end web development, developing services that integrate with social apps and analysing how we capture the attention of a generation of people who don’t consume BBC content in a traditional fashion.
Are you the right candidate?
We’re looking for a creative technologist who’s open minded and forward thinking. You’ve probably come from a front-end environment, you’re happy working with apps and mobile, new tech and maybe a bit of back-end stuff when the need arises. All of our focus will be on what the user sees and experiences and that’s were we want your skills and expertise to lie. Ideally you’ll be doing your own tech experiments and you can share these with us along with a broad portfolio. You’ll be building most of what we make so you really need to be happy being totally hands on. There will be some additional resources for supporting you but at times we’ll need you to scale and adapt the build to the situation. Not everything we make will be audience facing, some will be prototypes and proof of concepts that need to tell a story rather than be fully functioning. We’ll need you to adapt accordingly. Even at times working with specialised technical suppliers who may deliver a build that you over see (at the other end of the spectrum). Attitude is really important in this role and a ‘can-do’ one is a must. Our remit is to explore new ground and you’ll be key to helping us get there. Remember to submit your most relevant portfolio when you apply - this can include aspects from personal projects and employment suitable to the role.
About the BBC
We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are very important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached below. You’ll be asked questions relating to them as part of your application for this role.
