BBC World Japan Limited has been broadcasting BBC World News since 1994, providing the BBC’s quality news product with Japanese subtitles to audiences in Japan. We are recruiting a Deputy Editor to support our Editor in providing editorial leadership in managing our Japanese-language site to be the news and social media core of the BBC’s digital presence in Japan.
Based in Tokyo, you will select relevant video and text features and background material from the BBC News website http://www.bbc.com/news/, translate them into Japanese, check and edit the translation, and publish them on a new, Japanese language BBC site. You will develop and co-ordinate the BBC’s social media presence in Japan, especially on twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
Are you the right candidate?
Substantial journalistic experience in Japan is essential, together with fluent Japanese and excellent English language skills. You will have a detailed knowledge of social media, industry trends and emerging technologies and a good awareness of community management and compliance issues relating to social media and user-generated content. You will have an understanding of how social media and user-generated content is used in this region with a broad knowledge of international affairs.
