Design Director

Job Introduction


The Design Director is responsible for designing artwork and managing the team of designers who service BBC Worldwide global marketing campaigns, trade events, franchise brands as well as the BBC Worldwide master-brand.

They must have excellent communication skills with a proven track record of leading teams, concepting work, pitching, facing stakeholders with confidence and working with senior heads of department to direct the design team output successfully. They will lead multiple visual projects, developing creative solutions from concept through to creation, working with the Creative Director and production teams to deliver visually captivating work.  

They must be able to conceptualize, design and execute creative solutions that consistently and clearly communicate concept, positioning and messaging through all touch points - including print, TV, email, social media, events, B2B and B2C marketing collateral and internal marketing, etc. This strategic, conceptual thinker will have a wide range of design capabilities and experience, with a solid background in visual communications, commercial art, print, digital, photography, video, branding and typography.

The design director will have strong brand and typography skills and the ability to manage volume deliverables whilst prioritising creative resource for key campaigns and be able to mentor junior members of the team in design methodologies.

Role Responsibility


  • Responsible for art direction and graphic design, seeing all projects through from concept, design, production, completion and delivery. 
  • Lead a creative team to develop creative concepts and executions. 
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the creative team on all creative projects. Personally work on graphic development. Follow the company’s brand identity standards and guidelines. 
  • Work closely with production to keep all projects on track. 
  • Interprets project needs and develops concepts to suit specific guidelines while working within budget constraints. Provide accurate time and cost estimates for each tactic. 
  • Presents design work at various stages to stakeholders for review and final approval. 
  • Assist in the education and development of Graphic Designers. 
  • Interfaces with printers and various external vendors. Attends press checks and participates in photo shoots as needed. 
  • Completion of other tasks and duties as assigned. 

Are you the right candidate?

  • The ability to handle volume and multiple requests, all with varying degrees of priority and deadline constraints. Must be unflappable and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be a team player; willing to collaborate and share ideas, as well as receive feedback from colleagues to develop creative output.
  • Must be able to work independently and to communicate decision making to business stakeholders. The Design Director must be able to advocate for change and influence at senior level. 

  • The candidate must have an excellent design portfolio with strong branding and typographic skills that showcases their creative flair.

  • Knowledge of the print process and setting up design for print
  • Knowledge of preparing for a photo shoot – pre and post production


Experience in branding, print and web design, working within an in-house creative department or other creative team environment.
