Digital Communications Editor, BBC Trust
Do you want to help get the best out of the BBC for licence fee payers at a critical moment in the Corporation’s history? An opportunity has come up to play a key role at the BBC Trust – the governing body of the BBC which represents the interests of licence fee payers.
The Trust is currently recruiting for a Digital Communications Editor, on a twelve month contract basis. You will help ensure both our work and ambitions for the BBC are clearly communicated across traditional and digital media, so that they are understood by the public and a wide range of stakeholders. With Charter Review on the horizon, we want to engage actively with licence fee payers so their voice is heard in the public debate about the BBC’s future. It will be a busy and fast-paced role, but a hugely rewarding one.
As the Digital Communications Editor, you will lead the development and implementation of a digital content strategy, creating original content and digital campaigns to support Trust activity across Twitter, the Trust website and other social media platforms. In particular, you will play a vital role in helping to ensure that our consultative work programme is an effective, two-way communication with our audiences.
Working with the web editor, you will maximise opportunities to communicate the Trust’s work to audiences and stakeholders. You will also provide training and support to trustees and the wider Trust team, helping us to embed online activity within all Trust communications – both proactive and reactive.
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you will need a proven track record of managing digital editorial content across multiple channels, ideally gained within an industry or environment of similar scale and complexity, with a comparable level of external scrutiny.
Extensive writing and editing experience for a digital audience are essential and you will be able to assimilate information quickly. A good understanding of a range of other communications disciplines, including campaigning and crisis management will also be required. In addition, you will be highly organised and have demonstrable experience of project management, delivering large scale engagement programmes in the digital space.
With proven interpersonal and team working skills and the ability to work flexibly and effectively as a member of the Communications team, you will be comfortable establishing effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels of seniority across the BBC and externally.
