Digital Journalist - BBC Monitoring, Moscow
BBC Monitoring offers open source monitoring of TV, radio, web and print media around the world. It is an important part of the BBC's newsgathering operation and provides content for BBC output. Our round-the-clock media monitoring is also provided to a range of other customers, including media organisations, foreign governments, NGOs and universities.

You will play a pivotal role in meeting the needs of BBC Monitoring’s customers by identifying news and key insights from Russian broadcast, print and social media. You will write engaging reports in English in a range of formats, including verbatim translation. You will work within a shift pattern, often dictated by events as they happen.
You'll use a variety of tools and techniques to mine the media for story ideas, identify emerging trends and narratives and contribute to advance planning for coverage of key events.
Are you the right candidate?
You have a degree in either linguistics or journalism and relevant experience combined with solid news sense and editorial judgement. You are able to identify material that makes a “high impact” story of interest to BBC Monitoring’s customers. You have a thorough understanding of the media environment of Russia, plus the political, cultural, religious and economic factors which are significant in this region.
You are willing and able to embrace new ways of working and new technology, constantly looking for ways to innovate.
Native level of English and Russian is essential.
Contract: 12 month fixed term contract (local terms and conditions)
