Digital Journalist, BBC Monitoring (Persian)

Job Introduction

 BBC Monitoring (BBCM) provides news and information based on our monitoring of open source media from over 150 countries in more than 70 languages. It is an important part of the BBC's newsgathering operation, with journalists based in the UK and in international bureaux, and provides content for a range of BBC platforms.

Our extensive operation enables us to provide insightful and reliable coverage of political, economic, security and media news. Our round-the-clock monitoring of TV, radio, press, digital media and news agencies is also provided to commercial and other clients.

Role Responsibility

As a Digital Journalist, you’ll play a pivotal role in meeting the needs of BBC Monitoring’s customers by identifying news and key insights from TV, radio, newspapers and social media in Iran. You will produce engaging content in English on a range of different platforms. You will work within a shift pattern, often dictated by events as they happen.

You'll use a variety of tools and techniques to mine the media for story ideas, identify emerging trends and narratives and contribute to advance planning for coverage of key events.

Are you the right candidate?

You have experience as a journalist, excellent writing skills and are able to identify material that makes a “high impact” story of interest to BBC Monitoring’s customers. You have a thorough understanding of the local and international media environment and good knowledge of political, cultural, religious and economic factors significant in the region.

You are willing and able to embrace new ways of working and new technology, and are constantly looking for ways to innovate.

Fluency in the English language and a good working knowledge of Persian (Farsi) is essential.
