We are looking for a Director of Sustainability who will be responsible for leading our corporation-wide approach to sustainability, with reference to industry best practice and aligned to wider BBC corporate strategy, ensuring it is consistently applied across our divisions.

Role Responsibility

The role will develop, direct and drive off-screen/air sustainability activities across the BBC to ensure tangible, measurable benefits demonstrating added value. You will set the corporation-wide approach to Sustainability, embedding industry best principles across the business and play an active role in, informing management decision making to advance the BBC’s sustainability strategy at a senior level. You will also represent the BBC and work across the media industry to advance sustainable practices in the broader media operating environment.

With responsibility for leading the delivery of our new ambitious commitment to Net Zero, you will   contribute to our pan divisional requirements for the whole of the BBC, from Technology to Content Production, Broadcast and our Corporate functions, to inform and educate on issues in relation to climate change and sustainability.

Success will be measured by ensuring the BBC’s improving response to the challenges of climate change and embedding practices across the organisation to deliver against the sustainability strategy, while acting as a genuine partner for the business.

The Ideal Candidate

With significant leadership experience operating and influencing at a senior level, either managing sustainability programmes for large organisations or in an advisory capacity to a range of companies, you will have developed, refined, managed and executed sustainability projects in a fast-paced multi-stakeholder environment. You will know how to communicate and advise at all levels in an organisation and know what it takes to resolve complex and sensitive business and policy issues.

You will be a strategic thinker who has successfully driven the sustainability agenda across an organisation of the size, scale and complexity of the BBC and have a demonstrable background in successfully defining and delivering the transformation journey for major teams, divisions and functions.
