We are currently recruiting for an inspiring, persuasive and passionate Diversity Lead to play a leading role in delivering our ambition to become a pioneering industry leader on diversity, inclusion and equality.
Reporting to the Controller BBC One, you will have a high-profile role responsible for driving BBC Television’s diversity agenda, leading change and inspiring other senior leaders to embrace diversity and build it into everything they do.
The accountabilities and deliverables of the role fit within the 5 areas of activity set out in the diversity strategy, these are Workforce, Output, Audiences, Accessibility and Strategy & Public Service.
You will work closely with the Talent Network and BBC Academy to ensure our diversity projects such as Mama Youth, The Stephen Lawrence Trust & Apprenticeships deliver successful outcomes for BBC Television. Working with colleagues you will drive the longer term success a range of activities focused on developing entry level employees in TV.
Working with the senior leadership team and TV Change team, you will lead Television towards a culture of regular review of delivery against audience objectives, celebrating successes and informing future objectives both at genre and Individual level. You will also work with audience insight teams to create authentic understanding of the needs of underserved audiences.
You will also play a leading role in developing the diversity policy and strategy, establishing approaches and techniques to inspire ideas that appeal to a broader audience range and enable BBCTV to appeal to wider communities. You will also build close, productive relationships with the BBC Corporate Diversity centre to ensure an agreed Diversity plan is in place for the remainder of 2013/14 and working with the TV leadership team to produce a clear 2014/15 plan.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be a passionate advocate for BBC Television content on all platforms with the enthusiasm, energy and commitment to ensure equality and diversity as set out by the BBC Diversity strategy.
Outstanding stakeholder and change leadership skills are a pre-requisite and you will have the ability to engage senior leaders in the delivery against BBC diversity targets and engender a passion for diversity in these leaders.
A sound editorial understanding is essential along with extensive practical knowledge and experience of how this can be applied to diversity within the TV production environment.
You will be naturally authentic when addressing sensitive diversity issues and will demonstrate organisational leadership skills with ability to challenge TV leadership and hold leaders to account.
You will also possess the excellent communication skills needed to engage BBCTV community in the diversity agenda and embrace and celebrate diversity at all levels of the Television organisation.
