BBC Scotland’s News and Current Affairs department delivers high quality journalism on Radio, Television and Online to audiences across Scotland and across the rest of the UK. Our main broadcast centre at Pacific Quay in Glasgow is one of the most advanced digital centres in Europe.
We output around eight hours of live news broadcasting on radio and television every weekday and create dozens of online news stories. We strive to lead the editorial agenda in Scotland. Breaking news stories are at the heart of our journalistic effort, providing high quality analysis and delivering accurate and balanced reporting against tight deadlines.
The 18th of September 2014 will witness the most significant vote in Scotland in over 300 years.
BBC Scotland ‘s multiplatform news coverage will reflect the heart of the debate in the run up to the Referendum and on the night itself , providing excellent insight and analysis of all the emerging issues .
It is a massive Scottish and UK story and it is of considerable interest to audiences across the UK and around the world.
We are looking for an Editor to lead the Referendum Unit, a dynamic and diverse team of professionals committed to tell Scotland’s Referendum story not just to audiences in Scotland but also to across the rest of the UK.

The Ideal Candidate
You will possess keen insight into Scotland’s political climate and be skilled in translating original stories and ideas into arresting coverage on Radio, Television and Online. The successful candidate will be expected to provide insightful editorial analysis and have a professional track record in broadcasting and leading diverse programme teams. You will have an excellent network of contacts and in depth knowledge of UK and Scottish political and current affairs. The successful candidate will be expected to have highly developed management and leadership skills, and will advise editorial colleagues across the BBC in terms of our coverage of the big Referendum stories and issues, portrayal of events and appropriate programme contributors.
This is a senior position and the successful candidate will be expected to act as an ambassador for the BBC and its political journalism.
