Field Producer (Digital) - Russian Service

Job Introduction

The BBC’s Moscow Bureau is one of seven hub bureaux around the world and as such is among the busiest and most challenging of broadcast environments. The Bureau incorporates the following BBC services: Newsgathering, Russian Service, Monitoring. Working together, these services provide BBC programmes, including business and online services, with broadcast news and current affairs material of the highest possible editorial, production and technical standards gathered in the most efficient manner on a range of subjects.

News from Russia and the Former Soviet Union occupies an important place in the global news agenda and the BBC seeks to remain a competitive, respected and reliable source of information from across the region.

Role Responsibility

We are recruiting a Digital Field Producer who will be expected to organise, gather, process and deliver multimedia output, primarily digital in nature, responding promptly to news and other relevant requirements.  You will need a thorough understanding of the BBC’s distinctive news agenda, and of the background and context of events in the region.  You will need to be able to manage time and handle multiple tasks efficiently, adjusting work priorities as developments dictate.  You will need to be aware of, and interested in, developments in the sphere of digital media. You will be expected to pioneer new digital storytelling techniques and formats, as well as new ways of gathering, and processing, material from the field.

Are you the right candidate?

You should have a good command of the English language – be able to communicate via emails and personally.  A full command and up-to-date knowledge of the Russian language (first language or equivalent) is essential.  You'll need experience of work in a similar position in a news environment along with wide and up-to-date familiarity with the target area and an in-depth understanding of its history, politics, social issues and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience. You'll need to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the media situation in the target area and of gathering journalistic material through all up-to-date technical means.  A thorough understanding of the latest developments in digital storytelling is also essential.
