In the UK, BBC Studios enables audiences to enjoy their favourite BBC programmes and brands outside the licence fee-funded window on alternative platforms, through a range of partnerships, and in multiple formats, from products and magazines to events and experiences.

The BBC Studios’ Global News division is currently undergoing an exciting integration and transformation. This has created an opportunity in the finance team for an experienced Finance Manager looking for an opportunity to utilise their expertise in finance transformation, motivating a team, and implementing best practices. You will be responsible for providing financial and non-financial information and analysis to enable the Global News business to make appropriate and effective commercial decisions, ensuring that effective reporting and controls are in place to support a diversified and substantial business.

Role Responsibility

As the Finance Manager, you will provide analysis and interpretation of the business area results, using monthly reporting packs to support the business to deliver the results.

Establish and maintain a strong financial control and reporting environment, complying with BBCS Accounting Policies, IFRS, and where applicable local GAAP to ensure business risks are minimised and continually looking for opportunities to improve processes and controls to ensure compliance and minimise risk.

Review and manage the business area cash flow to report on variances and work with the Treasury function and business units to constantly refine and improve cash flow reporting.

Review all balance sheet accounts, work with the business area, central Finance functions, and IT, provide support and direction to ensure transactions are understood and correctly recorded with monthly reconciliations, and that the balance sheet is in line with IFRS and where applicable local GAAP.

Lead the annual audit process to deliver the required information for the sign-off of results.

Support the preparation of the statutory accounts, tax, and VAT returns for the UK and overseas-based subsidiaries and act as a key point of contact for external accountants, to ensure all statutory filing timelines are met.

Coordinate, supervise, and performance-manage a team of management and assistant accountants, providing professional guidance and advice to support decision-making.

Support the development of a high-performance culture, deliver solutions to address short-term financial issues, work with colleagues to identify and resolve root issues, and ensure that consistent/effective processes are in place to ensure high levels of delivery.

You will support department improvement projects as required (e.g. SAP Analytics Cloud roll-out) to improve processes across the team.

The Ideal Candidate

At BBC Studios, we seek people who are passionate about who we are and what we do

To be successful in this role you will have a proven track record in commercial finance in a management accounting environment including strong technical accounting skills and controls experience. Professional qualification in accountancy (preferably ACA or CIMA) and demonstrable relevant PQE.

Your experience working in a global organization with regional / multi-site finance teams within the media sector or/and consumer-facing business would be both desirable and a strong advantage. You will have good analytical and financial modelling skills; strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel (including pivot tables) SAP, and BW experience will be preferable.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisation, presentation skills, and the ability to communicate sometimes complex accounting rules to non-accountants.

Able to influence and empower others, you'll be a proactive self-starter with commercial acumen, confident with influencing, and networking. You’ll champion best practice, acting as an advocate for efficiency and continuous improvement. Passionate about people, you lead by example with empathy and encouragement, putting people first. You will have a global mindset: thinking and acting for both local and global needs and professional credibility.
