Freelance Journalists

Job Introduction

We’re looking for talented, flexible journalists to join our pool of freelancers at BBC Radio York, BBC Radio Humberside, BBC Radio Sheffield and BBC Radio Leeds.

The four stations are part of the BBC Local Radio network.

Role Responsibility

We require freelance journalists to cover project work, leave, weekends and other ad-hoc reasons.

Whether it’s creating content for our social media platforms, reading bulletins, reporting, producing programmes or making podcasts, we’d love to hear from you.

Are you the right candidate?

You’ll need to have digital and / or radio experience, whether in the BBC, the commercial sector or through community / university broadcasting. Please make your experience clear on your application.

If you can read bulletins, we need to know you’ve got a great voice and can write clearly and concisely. Please include a three minute demo with your application.

If you’re a reporter, you’ll need to have strong story-finding and storytelling skills, ask the right questions, get the best out of the interviewee and be comfortable reporting live on location.

If you’re a programmes producer, we’re looking for someone who is creative, organised and bursting with ideas.

For digital, you’ll have strong visual storytelling skills and know how to market your content on social platforms.

For radio, experience of the ViLoR studio setup, Dira and OpenMedia is desirable but not essential.

All roles are office based in York, Hull, Sheffield or Leeds.
