Grant Operations Officer (BBC Children in Need)

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

BBC Children in Need are currently looking for a Grant Operations Officer for a permanent contract, based in Salford.

BBC Children in Need has adopted a new funding strategy designed to enhance our support to disadvantaged children and young people. This expands the current portfolio of emergency and responsive grant programmes with an additional focus on partnership funding.

BBC Children in Need exists to make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Our refreshed objectives and activities will ensure the impact we have on children’s lives is front and centre of the work the charity undertakes over and above the projects and services we fund.

Role Responsibility

While experience of working in a grant making environment is desirable, this experience is not essential.

The Grant Operations Officer will provide a high level of service to all applicants and grantees who contact the charity by phone, email and post. You will give detailed advice to applicants and provide support throughout the application process, enabling the highest quality applications to reach the charity.

You will verify grant applications for the charity’s Main and Small grants programmes and also carry out assessments of applications to the charity’s Small Grants programme.

The Grant Operations Officer will support all aspects of the grant making functions and work as part of a team when required to support the charity’s Appeal Operations team. You will also support the Small Grants Operations Executive within the Design and Delivery team to deliver a best in class service with strong relationships.

The Ideal Candidate

While experience of working in a grant making environment is desirable, this experience is not essential. You will also have extensive experience of using databases regularly as well as working under pressure with high volumes of work and, importantly, experience of prioritising workloads effectively.

You will be an advocate of great customer care with extensive experience of dealing regularly with the public. Specific knowledge of children and young people’s services would be an advantage as would experience of assessing grant applications against specific policies.

You will be computer literate with strong MS Office skills, including the ability to analyse and manipulate data. You must be able to analyse data and also interpret both written and oral information. You will be able to produce written communications which are clear and well written and also be a great listener by drawing out information over the telephone.

It is essential that you possess excellent organisational and administrative skills and are proficient at following instructions and carrying out tasks accurately, systematically and reliably. The role will involve dealing with difficult and challenging conversations so you must have a positive attitude and a willingness and enthusiasm to coach and support others.
