Head of Business - BBC Drama, Films and Acquisitions

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of BBC Content, the Head of Business for Drama, Films and Acquisitions has responsibility for the business strategy for the genre, ensuring it meets overall audience, financial and regulatory objectives. It is a pivotal role for ensuring the continued success of BBC Drama and that it flourishes in the long term.
Working closely with the Controller of Drama, the Head of Business leads on commercial and operational decisions, supplier relationships and provides overall business leadership, from development through commissioning to delivery, ensuring the business strategy is met.
You’ll be responsible for setting the business strategy for BBC Drama, ensuring it meets overall objectives set for the genre.
You will manage BBC Drama’s slate and buying for network TV, BBC iPlayer and other online platforms and you’ll be accountable for tracking and achieving key performance targets for Drama, in particular supply targets and commercial revenue.
As Head of Business, you will be responsible for commercial activities, building and maintaining relationships with producers, co-producers and other third party distributors and funders. You will ensure the genre balances both its short term requirements with longer term opportunities.
You will lead a team of professionals including embedded Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs teams for Drama, Films and Acquisitions. You will be responsible for ensuring the genre complies with governance and regulatory obligations regarding the commissioning process.

You’ll have an in-depth understanding of the market for drama in the UK and internationally and the role of the BBC within it.
You’ll have extensive experience at managing commercial activities, from setting commercial strategies to deal negotiation.
A strong strategic thinker, you will bring with you proven experience of strategy setting, planning, delivery and change.
You will have extensive experience in managing financial budgets, delivering to targets, achieving overall value for money with the ability to flex plans as circumstances change.
With proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, you’ll be comfortable working collaboratively, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. You’ll also have outstanding influencing skills.
You will have proven leadership skills, giving direction to team members, handling a busy workload, managing many priorities and tight deadlines, whilst remaining calm under pressure.
