Job Introduction

We are seeking a Head of Commercial, Rights & Business Affairs, Commercial Business Development.  This is a permanent role based in London.

CRBA ensures the BBC acquires, creates and distributes Intellectual Property to maximise audience value and commercial return in a digital and global media environment. CRBA has an objective to grow audience value and financial return across the BBC Group in a fast-changing global media market.

CRBA therefore brings together all parts of the BBC to put in place platform or carriage deals, clear archive rights, negotiate deals with independents or strike programme investment deals. Innovation is at the heart of CRBA – supporting the BBC in creating new products and bringing them to market, building new partnerships, and establishing joint ventures for major content. This in turn relies on our deep understanding of rights, technology, content and the media market.  

This is a critical senior position that will require a strategic leader in all senses of the phrase. He/she will play a leading role in supporting the BBC’s ambitions for audiences, commercially and digitally.

Role Responsibility

As Head of CRBA (Commercial Business Development), you will take a leading role in supporting the BBC’s ambitions for audiences, commercially and digitally.  With responsibility for ensuring that digital, and ‘digital thinking’, is at the heart of CRBA, and that the knowledge and skills from these teams are shared and utilised across the BBC Group.  Working closely with the Group Commercial Director, the role sits within the Central CRBA team and you will be responsible for the CRBA teams embedded within Design and Engineering. 

This is a new senior leadership role, with profile and real impact to influence direction, change and culture for the wider CRBA team.  A particular focus is on: identifying effective, innovative and dynamic ways of working; developing strategic partnerships with key partners; and streamlining how we engage with our market to maximise opportunities in the digital space.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an experienced business development professional, with a strong track record in sales or negotiating deals and considerable experience in a senior commercially-focused role.  A sound understanding of emerging digital technologies and platforms, including social media, is essential.

You will have a track record of identifying market opportunities, delivering commercial solutions and of developing strategic partnerships and joint ventures.  Evidence of exercising good judgement will be paramount. 

You will also possess experience of managing change and innovation in a relevant environment or sector, and will have a strong track record in delivering commercial strategies.  An effective leader, you will have experience of developing high performing teams and an inclusive working culture.
