The Head of Design is an exciting new post that will play a central role in bringing together our award winning designers and system specialists for all our Digital and Broadcast output into one integrated BBC News Design team.
This is a senior position and the successful candidate will sit on the new News Commissioning Group and be a member of the Senior Management team in the Editorial Directorate department under Kamal Ahmed.
You must be both excited by current design trends and have a real track record of leading teams into significant change.
With a passion for design you must foster a culture of creativity and collaboration and help put Design at the heart of BBC News.
Reporting to the Editorial Director, you will be responsible for creating the new combined Design department and leading your team through a major change in the way they work and the content they produce.
You will be responsible for the BBC News brand and your primary focus will be on creating a more unified look and feel across all BBC News output, in the UK, Globally and in multiple Languages.
You will devise a strategy to bring more modern, visual forms of storytelling to our linear output and new digital products.
You will be a thoughtful and creative leader who can foster collaboration between different teams in BBC News and manage stakeholders in the rest of the BBC and external partners.
You will be responsible for bringing the department’s work in on time and on budget.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an innovative leader who is excited by the world of Design and wants to bring the best Design thinking to the heart of BBC News.
You must have extensive Design experience in linear or digital but preferably both platforms.
You must have a developed sense of editorial awareness and be fascinated by what’s happening in the UK and the World.
We are interested in an experienced manager who has led or played a significant role in effecting major change
You will need to be able to effectively communicate and implement your creative vision across the news portfolio
You must be a great Team Leader and capable of inspiring the very best from your team as well as handling complex negotiations with multiple stakeholders.
You must be committed to developing a diverse and inclusive team environment that fosters real creativity.
